If You’re In the Neighborhood!

Susan S. Shay, author of Holy The Shroud, will be signing books at a Meet and Greet Event for local authors in Napa Valley this Saturday, April 26th at Copperfield’s Books (1330 Lincoln Ave., Calistoga, CA) from 3-5 p.m.

All proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to two nonprofit organizations dedicated to supporting innocent victims of the war and violence in the Middle East: The Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA) which focuses on helping children and families displaced by these events, and the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, a non-sectarian community supporting hospitals and schools on the West Bank and in Palestinian communities.

In Case You Missed It…

Back in March, Susan S. Shay gave a live reading and Q&A at Grace Episcopal Church in Saint Helena, California to a packed room of fans and loved ones.

A book signing and reception took place afterward, where over $3,000 was raised—the profits of which went to Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA), and American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem (AFEDJ), a non-denominational non-profit devoted to supporting schools and hospitals on the West Bank and in Palestinian communities.

Particular thanks to Mike Ali Musa, proprietor of the wonderful Middle-eastern restaurant in Napa, A Small World for catering our launch party on March 26th and for his generous donation to the cause.

"I am so happy to see this book find its way into the world. The depth and rigor of Susan’s research is matched only by the breadth and authenticity of her story and characters. Those who read Shroud will find their lives enriched. Mine certainly is."

-Jan M. Flynn, award-winning author

“I loved Holy the Shroud on so many levels. The characters are convincingly nuanced and lifelike, and the cleverly woven plot kept me turning the pages. I also savored the book’s historical accuracy, which was spiced with complex spiritual insights that kept me thinking.”

-Lin Weber, LMFT, author and historian

“The last thing I expected “Holy The Shroud” to be was a thrilling page-turner. Knowing Susan as I have for 30 years now as both her Priest and friend, there were several things that I did expect. I expected it would be well written, that the crafting itself would be of the highest caliber. I expected her research to be thorough. She is both a student of the Bible and a pilgrim, and has walked the streets of Jerusalem. She brings familiar characters like Joseph of Arimathea, Nicodemus and Pontius Pilate to life in ways that fired my own imagination. From the Judean heights to the depths of the city sewers, the geography is accurate. I expected it to be realistic, but I also expected it to be mystical, because Susan is herself a mystic. Her novel takes us to the open tomb from which the fabric was taken on Easter Sunday. In the background of every page, the presence of the mysterious man from Nazareth is palpable. “Holy The Shroud” is historical fiction at its best. It casts a new light on an ancient story and brings the unanswerable questions again to the fore, “could He be the one? Could this be His funeral shroud?” You won’t be able to put it down!”

-Fr. William “Mac” Mcilmoyl, Rector Emeritus, Grace Episcopal Church.
